Thirteenth Annual Mayor's Cup Golf Tounament

The Thirteenth Annual Mayor's Cup Golf Tournament raised money on behalf of the Mayor's Youth Program and the Centers for Hope. The event was held at the beautiful Piedmont Driving Club and fielded golfers from the Atlanta metropolitan area's finest corporations.

The weather was perfect for the golfers who participated in putting contests and attempted hole-in-one drives to win a Ford Flex, provided by Wade Ford.

After the tournament the golfers participated in a silent auction of gifts donated by local businesses. Mayor Reed thanked the golfers for their generous participation while the golfers enjoyed lunch.

The teams played for the coveted trophy's provided by Tiffany & Co. Beautifully engraved crystal plaques were awarded to the first, second, and third place teams. SERCO, a team fielded by Dr. Walter Young took home the first place Award.

AWDA Takes the Lead on Green Projects for Youth

Mayor’s Youth Program participants have been hard at work this summer enriching the lives of residents in modest means communities. After weeks of training in low-flow water-kit and compact fluorescent light-bulb (CFL) installs, the “Eco-terns” as AMPS-Atlanta staff affectionately call them, have been visiting residents of the city of Atlanta retrofitting residents’ old light-bulbs and water fixtures free of charge.

After only a few weeks in the field the AMPS-Atlanta Ecoterns have been able to impact several modest means communities including Mechanicville, Cleveland Ave, Summerhill, and Donnelly just to name a few. In the field the Ecoterns are supported and supervised by a staff of local college students and recent graduates. Together with the Mayor’s Youth Program (MYP), the Let’s Raise a Million Project (LRAM), and the Department of Watershed Management (DWM); AMPS-Atlanta is intent on spreading environmental intelligence and educating Atlanta communities on the health, economic and environmental benefits of energy and water conservation. MEET AWDA's CUSTOMERS:

Melinda Hall

Melinda Hall
Ms. Hall found AWDA through a recommendation from another person involved in the program. She is currently looking for a customer service position and has previous experience in call centers and retail with clerical work included. This is Ms. Hall’s first time at the job fair and it was a very good experience for her.

Bishop Cohen

Bishop Cohen
Bishop Cohen found AWDA by passing the building located at 818 Pollard Boulevard and wanted more information about our programs. He is currently looking for a technical support position for which he has experience with computer networking and a Bachelor’s Degree in telecommunications. He usually does not like to go to job fairs because they are too large and impersonal, however, he chose to come to AWDA’s Job Fair because they were hiring on the spot and are organized.
