ATLANTA WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT AGENCY
Deborah Lum, a community leader with over 45 years of experience, has been effectively collaborating with public and private organizations to create job opportunities and affirmative change. As the Executive Director of the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency, she has transformed the One‐Stop Center into a haven for career development, education, and opportunity. Under her leadership, AWDA has managed and operated Cyber Labs for over 5 years providing adults and youth residents’ community access to basic computer training classes, access to the internet and Microsoft Office for school related projects, and resume writing. Cyber Labs are located throughout the metro Atlanta area. AWDA’s Cyber Bus is a full service mobile Cyber Lab equipped with Wi‐Fi that allows City residents to access the internet and Microsoft office at various city locations throughout the day. With her vision, business savvy smarts and well‐respected reputation, Ms. Lum has formed a collaboration of partners encompassing state and local governments, local academia, non‐profits and private sector organizations, through which the center can offer city residents a comprehensive array of services in a “one‐stop” customer‐friendly environment.
Her impact on the local community through employment training programs has been immeasurable in producing a ready pool of qualified workforce professionals and laborers to meet the local employment needs. Ms. Lum is also the force behind the design and implementation of Mayor Kasim Reed’s “Mayor’s Youth Program, The Atlanta Promise” initiative, a mission to adopt Atlanta Public School Seniors and assist them in their steps towards a college education, technical training, or meaningful employment. To date, the initiative has raised over 5.3 million dollars and assisted over 1400 Atlanta youths in taking their “Mayor’s Youth Program” towards success. Previously, as Vice President of the National Alliance of Business, Ms. Lum raised record breaking funds for the Southeastern region through corporate contributions and contracts. She also spent several years as the Director of Auditing for the State of South Carolina, overseeing all job training partnership act programs and distribution funds.
